This is it...Don't Get Scared Now!

All right suckas it's time to stop slacking and get some food storage. Our ward is doing a Survivor game for the year. This is to help motivate us on our preparedness. We are all broken into 8 teams and will be competing on challenges. The first challenge is to be done by tonight at midnight. I am proposing that each of you my blogging friends join our ward and do the challenges with us. I will post the first challenge and you have until next Saturday March 7th at midnight to be done. You can report to us we are the team captains of the Mitchillites (we all live off Mitchell street). Or you can compete with us if you like. Good luck we are competitive and by we I mean me. There are no excuses do something. If you have nothing buy something. Get going I want to see some serious work people! Oh and we got 10 points on the first challenge. In your face!

The challenge consists of 4 areas of preparedness. 1) 72 hour kits 2) Three month supply of food 3) One year basic food supply 4) Water supply

For the first area you must be able to check off 1-3 items from the list for 1 point or you get 2 points for 4 or more.
  • Container for kit (backpack, bucket, duffel bag, tote)
  • Food and water
  • Tools and supplies ( batteries, flashlights, can opener, whistle, compass, toilet paper)
  • Special items/needs (infants, elderly, disabled, pets, sanitary supplies, medications)
  • Clothing and Bedding (change of clothes, sleeping bag, emergency blankets, cocks, hats gloves)

  • First Aid Kit
Part 2: Three Month Supply
Look in your cupboards if you had to live on the food in your house right now estimate how many weeks of food you have right now? You get 2 points for just taking an inventory of your current state right now.

Part 3: One year basic food supply for one adult
Record how much of the following you have:
300 pounds of grains
60 pounds of legumes
25 pounds of fats and oils
75 pounds of milk and dairy
60 pounds of sugar
185 pounds of fruit
185 pounds of vegetables
1 pound of baking powder
1/2 pound of yeast
5 pounds of salt
1/2 gal. of vinegar

kid amounts:
3 and under-50% of adult
4-6 70%
7-10 90%
11 and up 100%
A food calculator can be found at http:///www.thefoodguys.com/foodcalc.html

If you have nothing write that down, you get 2 points

Part 4:
Water Supply
Experts recommend storing at least a two week supply of water. Each person requires at least one gallon of water per day. To meet the minimum recommended storage you will need 14 gallons per person in your household.

How much does your family need?
How much do you have on hand?

Answer the two questions and you get 2 points

Bonus Points: Most possible 2
One point if every member of the household helps fill out the worksheet
One point if you added to your storage
One point if you worked at the cannery in the last month

Don't get overwhelmed. Do what you can and get to work!
